Purpose                                     

  • Identify and recover financial leakage by analysing cost and revenue data across wholesale and retail operations, ensuring all charges and revenues are accurately captured and reconciled.
  • To minimise financial loss by validating and where required, dispute network charges received from the Network Service Providers (NS), ensuring timely and accurate payable amounts of Distribution Use of System (network bills) invoices.
  • Validate and dispute network and market charges to ensure only accurate costs are approved for payment and discrepancies are resolved before finalisation, and the approval process is managed in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ensure accurate cost pass-through by reconciling validated charges against customer billing, confirming all recoverable costs are billed appropriately, and advising the billing team on necessary adjustments or actions to recover charges effectively.
  • Maintain data integrity by ensuring the availability and accuracy of metering and operational data critical to financial assurance, resolving issues promptly.
  • Leverage systems and data to proactively recover lost revenue or overcharges, and recommend or implement new processes to improve financial outcomes
  • Minimise financial loss by reconciling wholesale operations with customer accounts, conducting detailed analysis to ensure all wholesale liabilities are accurately linked to active retail customers, and collaborating with relevant teams to recover unallocated costs or manage exceptions appropriately.
  • Drive continuous improvement by challenging existing processes and identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and financial recovery.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The major responsibilities of the position, including the expected outcomes, standard and timeframes. i.e. the what and the how.

  • Operate Pacific Blue’s DUOS settlement validation process using the third-party revenue assurance system to independently calculate and validate charges based on metering data, standing data, and network tariffs. Ensure invoices are validated within prescribed timeframes, disputes are raised, and credits from past disputes are tracked and recovered.
  • Use the third-party system to perform DUOS charge reconciliation by comparing DUOS and metering charges against retail invoices. Investigate discrepancies and ensure timely completion and follow-up of discrepancy reports.
  • Validate NEM settlement invoices using the third-party system by independently calculating expected charges from metering data, MSATS standing data, and pool prices. Ensure invoices are reviewed and approved before payment deadlines, with minimal discrepancies at final revision.
  • Reconcile wholesale liabilities with customer accounts through the third-party system by identifying market connection points with no corresponding active retail customer and ensuring appropriate action is taken. [Note: This wording needs to be in every Tango PD as it is a compliance requirement]
  • Monitor and support the Guaranteed Service Level (GSL) payment process by ensuring the data flow to the Retail Billing team is functioning correctly, and assist the billing team with queries or issues related to GSL payments.
  • Liaise with Billing and Operations teams to ensure accurate billing and advise on adjustments required to recover charges effectively.
  • Support and provide quality assurance on price change events to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with billing and market data.
  • Manage Pacific Blue’s Revenue Assurance third-party service provider and act as the in-house expert for the associated system, ensuring effective use and issue resolution.
  • Create ad hoc reports as required by the business and collaborate with the data team for more complex reporting needs.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, providing accurate and timely information as required.
  • Take a continuous improvement approach by identifying inefficiencies, recommending and implementing enhancements to processes and systems that improve data integrity, operational efficiency, and financial recovery.
  • Ensure invoices are payment-ready by completing the approval workflow, including following up with approvers to expedite approvals. Once approved, download the invoice PDFs and forward them to the Accounts Payable (AP) team for processing.
  • Ensure that the Company’s compliance obligations are actively maintained, managed and kept up- to-date with particular focus on cyber security and data protection and the compliance obligations allocated to the position title as identified in the Company’s Register of Compliance Obligations (as set out in the Compliance Procedure and as amended from time to time). Knowledge, experience (including qualification) and skill

Knowledge and experience:   

Detail the education and or special certification, training and work experience requirements for the position. This may also include the level of industry knowledge.

  • Commercial or technical background
  • Industry experience with detailed understanding of the current state of the emerging trends of the gas and electricity market, including regulatory, distribution, wholesale and retail perspectives is highly desired
  • Minimum of two plus years’ experience in Revenue Assurance or a related analytical or financial discipline
