Purpose
- This role is to provide accounting, financial and business partnering support to the retail part of the business, to assist in meeting their goals and objectives.
- The role is primarily focused on the financial management of ongoing retail operations, supporting the Finance Manager, overseeing the Accounts Receivable function, and managing bank accounts. In addition, the role provides comprehensive financial and commercial support across the retail team, contributing to budgeting, forecasting, performance analysis, and decision-making processes to drive business growth and operational efficiency.
- This role supports the business during a period of significant project development and growth. This will involve being able to demonstrate a strong attention to detail; as well as having the ability to understand, process and articulate information to the finance team and wider business as appropriate.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Business Partnering support related tasks, including (but not limited to):
- Provide deep insights into drivers of monthly results against budgets, forecasts and expectations (variance analysis) to the business and finance
- Review and challenge initiatives within the Business Unit to ensure that business decisions are made with a clear understanding of likely financial outcomes
- Define business requirements and structures that allow visibility of spend identification of waste, business performance improvement, and drive accountability
- Identify and monitor key financial and operational metrics to enable timely and pro-active response to identified trends
- Ensure integrity, compliance and financial control in investments (Business Cases and Projects)
- Accounting and reporting related tasks, including (but not limited to):
- Completion of month end procedures and preparation of monthly results and ensure integrity of financial results and key operational metrics
- Analysis of monthly results focusing on retail margin and its components and communication of results to the relevant stakeholders (e.g. General Manager Retail, Finance Manager, Retail, Retail Executive Managers, Executive Manager, Financial Controller)
- Preparation of monthly retail cost center including analysis of variances to budget/ forecast
- Contribution to monthly business review reporting pack for management
- Process revenue and payment journals from Engage / Tally into SAP
- Month end credit reporting including processing of doubtful debts provision in line with relevant policy
- Work with the business units and FP&A team to establish annual budgets and forecasts with key assumptions rationalised, clearly articulated and endorsed by business owners
- Preparation of concession claims
- Ensure retail balance sheet is regularly reconciled in line with whole of business requirements
- Other finance related tasks including (but not limited to):
- Manage CAPEX and customer acquisition costs through monthly reports measured against budget / forecast
- Prepare monthly rolling forecasts for CAPEX and customer acquisition costs
- Responsible for having regular meetings with Retail cost center managers to help manage costs within budget parameters
- Assist in liaising with the Auditors and other compliance related activities
- Look for opportunities for continuous improvement and streamlining of process activities to drive efficiencies in process for reporting
- Ad hoc responsibilities and projects as directed by Finance Manager, Retail

- Anticipate queries from financial information users and prepare logical and concise explanations
Knowledge, experience (including qualification) and skill
Knowledge and Experience
- Accounting degree qualified
- CPA/CA qualification
- Experience in electricity/ gas industry
- Retail Margin analysis experience highly regarded
- Good knowledge and understanding of accounting standards
- SAP experience will be highly regarded
- Oversee the efficient operation of the team including staff supervision and development.
- Develop relationships with and provide support to Retail SLT.
