The Role

This permanent position is responsible for leading Pacific Blue’s Retail business unit and contributing to the company’s strategic direction as a member of the Executive Committee (EXCO). With full P&L accountability, the General Manager Retail drives the development and execution of retail business strategies to ensure operational, commercial, and financial success across Mass Market and Corporate and Industrial (C&I) market sectors. The role focuses on market positioning, compliance, operational excellence across electricity, gas, solar, and emerging energy solutions, while also identifying opportunities for growth through new technologies and complementary products or services.

 

Beyond Retail, the role contributes to Pacific Blue’s operational planning and group strategy while sharing accountability for overall commercial and financial performance. The General Manager Retail also leads brand development, external marketing and public relations, media management, and internal and external communications, including oversight of the company’s website.

 

This is a full-time position based in Melbourne.

 

 

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Lead the strategic direction, operations, and commercial success of Pacific Blue’s Retail business, ensuring alignment with the company’s broader objectives as a member of the Executive Committee (EXCO).
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic plans, including annual operating and rolling five-year strategies, while monitoring performance and reporting to the Executive Committee and Pacific Blue Board.
  • Own the development and execution of a Retail product roadmap, optimizing traditional energy products while driving innovation in new products and technologies to meet evolving customer demands.
  • Oversee all brand, marketing, public relations, and communication activities, including corporate and retail websites, to enhance Pacific Blue’s market presence and customer engagement.
  • Lead a proactive approach to customer retention by managing churn, implementing targeted strategies, and minimizing turnover—particularly among high-value customer segments—to maximize long-term business growth.
  • Lead research and analysis of energy market trends, competitor activity, and industry opportunities to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Manage Retail budgets, forecasts, and financial performance, ensuring alignment with Pacific Blue’s growth and profitability objectives.
  • Foster a high-performance culture, enhancing staff engagement and leadership within the Retail team and broader organization.
  • Ensure that the Company’s compliance obligations are actively maintained, managed and kept up to date with particular focus on cyber security and data protection and the compliance obligations allocated to the position title as identified in the Company’s Register of Compliance Obligations (as set out in the Compliance Procedure and as amended from time to time).

 

 

To be successful in this role you will have:         

Leadership Experience: Over 10 years of experience leading a national services business in a competitive market, with a proven track record in driving high growth.

Qualifications: Graduate or preferably post-graduate qualifications in Business or a related field.

Strategic and Operational Expertise: Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering contemporary business strategies, with significant operations management experience to achieve operational excellence.

Team Building and Recruitment: Proven experience in recruiting senior roles and building high-performance executive teams.

Commercial Acumen: Exceptional business and commercial acumen, with a track record of optimizing commercial drivers to develop sustainable business plans and cost-effective outcomes.

Change Management: Experience managing and delivering large-scale change programs, with the ability to navigate complex, regulatory environments and influence key stakeholders.

Sales, Marketing, and Customer Engagement: Strong background in consumer marketing, brand management, multi-channel sales operations, and customer service, with experience in reducing customer churn and improving retention and service levels.

Digital Business Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of leading digital businesses and digital experience, with expertise in leveraging digital strategies to drive business growth.

Contract Negotiation: Experience in negotiating large commercial contracts, demonstrating strong business negotiation skills to achieve favourable outcomes.

Customer Service and Billing Systems: Significant experience in mass-market customer service and billing systems, with a focus on optimizing service delivery and customer satisfaction.

Regulatory Expertise: Proven experience working within complex Energy Retail regulatory environments and engaging with government interface to influence the achievement of company objectives.
