Credit Manager

The Credit Manager is responsible for overseeing the credit & collections function and managing the company's credit policies and procedures. This role involves managing credit risk of the business, ensuring timely collections, and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders and customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance or accounting, excellent analytical skills, and a proven track record in credit & collections management.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

Credit Risk Management:

  • Develop and implement credit policies and procedures to minimise risk and optimise cash flow.
  • Adhere to relevant regulatory and legislative guidelines while developing and implementing credit and hardship policies and procedures to minimise risk.
  • Evaluate customer payment performance data to manage credit decisioning criteria.
  • Monitor and review accounts receivable aging reports to identify and address potential credit risks.
  • Implement strategies to reduce bad debt and improve collections.

Collections:

  • Oversee the collections process, ensuring timely follow-up on overdue accounts.
  • Negotiate payment terms and settlements with customers as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the collections team to resolve disputes and enforce payment terms.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and present credit risk reports to senior management, including analysis of credit trends and potential issues.
  • Monitor key performance indicators related to credit and collections.
  • Analyse and report on the impact of credit policies on the company's financial performance.

Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships within the Credit team, as well as customers and vendors to facilitate credit management and collections.
  • Address and resolve customer queries and concerns related to credit and payment issues.
  • Work closely with various internal teams to support business objectives and maintain customer satisfaction.

Knowledge and experience:Detail the education and or special certification, training and work experience requirements for the position. This may also include the level of industry knowledge.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Business.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the end to end credit and collections processes and its application within the energy industry 
  • Minimum 5 years credit collection experience in a senior role within an energy retail business
  • Relevant knowledge of legal and compliance requirements for an electricity retail business
  • Experienced in the development of policy and processes within a credit department
  • Knowledge of the Privacy Act, Hardship (all jurisdictions)
  • A solid understanding of credit/collections related reporting requirements
  • Experience in leading a team in collections

  • Ability to clearly communicate to all levels of management
  • Highly developed presentation, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and spreadsheeting skills
  • Self-starter who can demonstrated high initiative, an ability to manage multiple tasks and manages their time effectively
  • Ability to set priorities to manage workload effectively and autonomously
  • Ability to clearly explain and define issues/outcomes
  • Sound judgement and decision making skills
  • Ability to deal with conflict situations utilising sound negotiation skills
  • Proficient in MSATS and MS Office suite
